![]() The Elite when I was kvetching in the Man of Steel board about how much I hated that movie.īut that's about it, otherwise the IMDB boards were getting worse and worse with the non-existent moderation that happened under and any every recent movie up to that point. I'll credit the boards for leading me onto the superior Superman vs. I miss the IMDB message boards every day. No one actually said when the show was coming back. What proceeded was something MULTIPLE PAGES WORTH OF RESPONSES between various users calling each other names, dragging each other to hell, etc., all in defense of either OP asking a simple question or the idea that OP should just Google the simple question for themselves. Someone responded to that to tell that person they were a dick. The responder told OP to stop being so lazy and Google it. The first reply did not answer the question. I'm paraphrasing, but all the OP had written in the post was something like: "I'm too lazy to look it up myself lol" One of the first threads was titled something like: "when does the new season come out?" I was already on IMDB, so I went to the page for The 4400, but the page didn't list that information. I think they've revived it at this point, or there were talks to do so.? Either way, my mom liked the show, and one day she asked me when the next season was supposed to premiere. Once upon a time, the show The 4400 was airing. Took awhile but it was just a matter of time.Ĭan I tell you my favorite story about the IMDB message boards? When IMDb was bought, by Amazon, the writing was on the wall really. I mean it was so funny.īut I agree with OP, the way they just obliterated and wiped out all those years of reviews and comments was brutal. Robert Pattinson was on a talk show and he said apparently his mother had called him and she told him she had foolishly looked on there. I’ll never forget one particularly bad comment. ![]() They were looking to cast Edward Cullen, the main character together with Bella Swan and when it was announced that Robert Pattinson was to be the new Edward Cullen oh dear God the boards went nuts. One of the funniest boards was about Twilight and the hunt for Edward Cullen!!. I can think particularly of Snakes on a Plane, and Cloverfield. It was also great because hype was generated big time on there. There were lots of fun things on there but also for real movie fans it was a place where you could go and talk about more obscure movies you know, there were some heavy weight movie fans on there, cinephiles if you like. I think I said something like Giraffes in a helicopter. I think the funniest thing we ever did was talking about alternative movies like snakes on a plane. I also had an enormous amount of fun on that board. Yes towards the end it was full of some pretty awful threads however for real movie fans it was the place to be. I was an early adopter of IMDb and was on the boards constantly writing reviews about things joining conversations, I think it was terrible what they did. To say I was upset when they got rid of the boards is an understatement. Every time I learn of a new site it asks me to sign in with Facebook or Google. This has it's merits of course, you can see if someone you're interacting with is an absolute scumbag which is always useful, but niche internet corners are few and far between nowadays. My content spoke for itself, and what I said probably reflected my views but it wasn't ironclad proof of them. You're not just getting my thoughts on the new Star Trek episode, if you wanted to you could find my thoughts on Puerto Rican statehood, or probably piece together some identifying information on me which wouldn't happen in most forums. ![]() And no, reddit is slightly different reddit is a site where people go to discuss everything they want. Gone are the days of yore wherein one would go to a website specifically to talk about something. That's a side effect of Internet homogenization, if a site is big enough or popular enough it pretty much inevitably ends up being ripped off or straight up purchased by social media companies who need you on their platform every second of every day.
